Cause
This error message is seen when we try to edit a selection on a layer that contains vector data (such as type layers, shape layers, vector masks, or Smart Objects).
Solution
In order to edit a selection that contains vector data, we need to convert the selected layer into a raster image.
- Select the layer from Layers palette
- Right-click on that layer
- Choose Rasterize Layer
